Thailand (2)To the North stands the old capital, Ayuthaya, the site of many ancient battles. |
The palaces and temples may have lost some color but not their grace. |
The bricks form patterns everywhere and sun and shadows fall across the walls. |
There are many children, even in the old city,
selling things, |
High in the misty hills beyond Chiang Mai,
small towns lie clustered along the banks of streams and rivers. |
If the river is big enough, villagers build bamboo rafts to carry goods and people. |
They also use elephants to haul lumber and water.
Children chase baby chicks to put them in baskets for the night while others watch. |
