Hawaii

This is our dream

and Hawaii fulfuls it

But spirits of the past guard the land

And protect its people

Water and earth and trees blend into one another

The old ones     were       one with the land

Flowers

and birds

bless the islands

Petals echo leaves

and dapple the pathways

Lava scorches the earth and hardens into rows of jagged teeth

watch where you step

But shimmering in the light and shadows, the palms

define the landscape

enhance life

and inform art
